Artist Residency for TeachersGrantIn-Person
Friday, Jul 12, 2024
Foundation House
Old Mill Road
Greenwich, CT 06831
Residency runs from Friday, July 12-Sunday, July 21, 2024. Candidates will be notified of any decisions by mid-May.
The Academy for Teachers understands how hard it is for teachers who are also working artists to find the space and time to be creative. We are thrilled, therefore, that Foundation House has partnered with us and will host eight teachers for an artist residency of ten days this summer. Residents will be provided housing, three meals a day, and the ability to pursue their art in a supportive, safe, and undisturbed environment.
Foundation House is a nonprofit center for learning with a focus on health, wellness, the environment, and social justice. It looks forward to opening the space for teacher-artists to help further important discussions around these topics. The program’s only requirement is that all residents eat dinner together every evening.
Proposals from teachers with established artistic practices in any of the visual, written, and performing arts will be considered. Applicants must be teaching full time, with no imminent plans for retirement. Priority will be given to teachers who are Fellows of the Academy for Teachers.
Each resident will receive a $500 honorarium after the session and can be reimbursed up to $100 for supplies necessary for the residency. Residents will have their own bedroom, a private or semi-private bathroom, studio space, three meals a day, and access to the property’s common areas and its seventy-five acres of land to explore.
Travel expenses will not be covered.
About Foundation House
Just a stone’s throw from the border of New York, nestled in back country Greenwich, CT, you’ll find Foundation House. Built in 1925, the property is one of the town’s few remaining Great Estates. With its grand manor house, old stables, greenhouses and outbuildings, Foundation House represents life at the crossroads; respecting the past, while inspiring the future. Every few months, Foundation House opens its doors to artists and activists working on projects related to their mission of bettering environmental, community, and mental health. Creatives of all disciplines - painters, writers, sculptors, designers, visionary thinkers and doers - are offered an inspiring retreat, space and time to create.
