Zines are small magazines, often handmade and pretty much always cool. They come in different shapes and sizes: we’ll look at several examples, including some made by students. Making zines is a hands-on activity, offering students of all ages a creative way to express themselves, to present research, and to convey ideas in any subject. We’ll discuss ways to use zine-making in any curriculum, and finish up by constructing our own zines.

Lisa Wilde is a teacher and artist. Her most recent zine, Yo, Miss #6: Changes, Vengeance, Trump and the Eumenides, was shortlisted for a 2018 Broken Pencil Zine Award. She has taught at John V. Lindsay Wildcat Academy, a second-chance high school in New York City, for twenty years.
