Yoga and Mindfulness
The practices of yoga and mindfulness help us “be” in the moment, which makes us better able to focus on family, friends, and work. We’ll begin with a 60-minute all-level yoga class, followed by a guided-mindfulness meditation. We’ll close with a discussion on the larger benefits of these practices in our lives and our classrooms.
Academy Fellow Elana Master, MA, has been a music educator since 2007. She earned a BA in vocal performance from SUNY, Stony Brook, and an MAT in Music Education from CUNY, Brooklyn. She currently teaches grades pre-K-5 at P.S. 705 in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. A dedicated yoga and meditation practitioner, Master became a certified yoga teacher in 2010 and teaches various styles of yoga in many different settings. An extended stay at a healing center in Thailand this past summer helped her gain an even deeper sense of how important stillness and mindful awareness can be and how positively they can affect everything we do and think in our daily lives.
