Learn how restorative justice circles can bring students together. “Circling up” encourages kids to speak their own truth and helps them understand where their classmates are coming from. What’s more, they’re fun!

Academy Fellow Nicole Lavonne Smith is the Restorative Justice Director at Science Skills Center High School and a staff developer at Morningside Center for Teaching Social Responsibility. A New York City educator for the past two decades, Smith co-created the circle workshop “But Can They Work Together, Though? A Black Woman and a White Woman Get Real About the Highs and Lows of Interracial Collaboration in Racial Justice Work.”
