Getting Beyond a Blind Date with Science
Alan Alda, an Oscar nominee with multiple Tony nominations and many Emmy Awards, won lasting fame for his portrayal of Hawkeye Pierce in the television series M*A*S*H. In this lecture, he will draw on personal experience to explore why it is important for scientists, engineers, and health professionals to communicate effectively with the public, and how they can do it better. This is not just a talk for scientists, however: Mr. Alda’s thoughts on communication have relevance for any field in love with its jargon — such as, for instance, education.
