Dancing Voice / Singing Body
with Meredith Monk
Offered in partnership with National Sawdust
Monday, March 26, 2018

Meredith Monk will lead a master class on her visionary artistic process and methods for integrating the voice and body. Beginning with breathing techniques and a physical/vocal warmup, participants will then work with the voice and body as multifaceted instruments for exploring range, timbre, gesture, resonance, character, landscape, and rhythm. Monk will also discuss her astonishing artistic trajectory over the last six decades, sharing examples of how she weaves together music, image, movement, light, and object in order to discover new modes of perception.

Meredith Monk is a composer, singer, director, choreographer, filmmaker, and creator of new opera, music-theater works, films, and installations. In conjunction with her 50th season of performing and creating work, she held the 2014-15 Debs Composer’s Chair at Carnegie Hall. Celebrated internationally, her work has been presented at major venues throughout the world.
