A Master Class in Leadership
with Wil Smith
Offered in partnership with CUNY, Roosevelt House
Friday, May 16, 2014

As Shakespeare famously wrote, “Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.” This Master Class will consider leaders from the worlds of sports, industry, politics, education, and elsewhere through a specific lens: To what extent are these leaders able, or unable, to inspire others? What qualities of character and what particulars of circumstance enhance or inhibit inspiration? Through a series of interactive exercises, participants will develop their strengths and acknowledge their limitations as potential leaders.

Wil Smith is Dean of Community and Multicultural Affairs at Berkshire School and Associate Director of Seeds of Peace International Camp, where his work with young people is legendary. Mr. Smith served in the Navy and the Navy Reserves for 23 years, deployed to Europe during the Kosovo conflict in 1999, coached basketball, was Bowdoin College’s first single male parent graduate, and earned a law degree in 2006. His inspirational life story has been written about widely and earned him a profile on the NBC Nightly News.
