Inspiration/Excavation: Craft-Based Prompts That Kick-Start Writing
with Susan Choi
Offered in partnership with the New-York Historical Society
Monday, November 19, 2018
9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Nominations are now closed.

This day-long workshop offers a crash course in fictional technique as well as a proven bag of tricks for prompting on-the-spot writing. Analysis of outstanding short fiction will alternate with prompts that hone attention to aspects of craft and excavate the terrific life experience we all possess but don’t know what to do with. By the end of the day, participants will have written and received feedback on quite a lot of prose.

Susan Choi is the author of four novels: My Education, A Person of Interest, The Foreign Student, and American Woman. Her honors include a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship and the PEN/W.G. Sebald award. She teaches in the English department at Yale.
