A Close Reading of Shakespeare’s Sonnets
with James Shapiro
Offered in partnership with The New School
Friday, October 11, 2013

If principals are to lead schools that support the intellectual and creative development of teachers, then principals, too, need intellectual inspiration. They, too, need to be reminded of the joys of learning. Our first Master Class for principals will be a close reading (of the sort central to the Common Core) of Shakespeare sonnets. No prior knowledge of Shakespeare is required for this class.

James Shapiro of Columbia University, is one of the world’s foremost authorities on Shakespeare and the author of widely admired, award-winning books, including 1599: A Year in the Life of William Shakespeare and, most recently, Contested Will: Who Wrote Shakespeare? He also sits on the Board of Governors of the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Folger Shakespeare Library.
